Leeuwarden is… – Leeuwarden unmasked [1]

In the beginning it was more of a hate than love relationship. Sorry, just being honest. Not all love comes from first sight. Looking back at the last three years, on the other hand… With my whole heart I’d say ‘Leeuwarden, city of adventure and unexpected turns – I will miss you!’

‘Leeuwarden Unmasked’ is a series of articles, which follow the adventures of a foreign stranger through the depths of the music scene in Leeuwarden. As I mentioned Leeuwarden and I… we learned to love each other. The reason for this was mostly music and the people behind it. Genres like alternative rock, techno, house, drum and bass, psy-trance, and many more are seen from a lot of us youngsters as places of freedom and expression. From local clubs and bars to open airs and forest raves, the music is what gets all of us together to be free, grow, learn, and most importantly enjoy life.

Home of great talents
Leeuwarden is a beautiful city, filled with unexpected challenges and endless opportunities. Leeuwarden turned out to be a home of great talents and many creatives. I started discovering places like 21Leeuwarden, a small underground club, Mukkes, an alternative rock café, De Groene Ster, a beautiful park and great festival location, and many more. All those places are home for music lovers, thus gathering local and foreign enthusiasts. What I saw here was pure passion and great urge for development and growth. I saw people with great qualities and even greater ideas. All of those people aim at success but as well mostly enjoy whatever they’re doing.

And in the end the biggest opportunity and thus the biggest challenge were those last three years experiencing Leeuwarden. And now, that 2018 is just around the corner, I want you to take my hand while I walk you through the pretty depths of a cultural capital.
